PENTECOST SUNDAY SERMON OUTLINE – Susie Kralingen

Text: Acts 19:1-7

vv2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Who is Holy Spirit ?

The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity.  He is fully God. He is eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, has a will, and can speak.  He is alive.  He is a person.  He is not particularly visible in the Bible because His ministry is to bear witness of Jesus (John 15:26).

Some says that the Holy Spirit is nothing more than a force. This is false. If the Holy Spirit were merely a force, then He could not speak (Acts 13:2); He could not be grieved (Eph. 4:30); and He would not have a will (1 Cor. 12:11).

OT Prophesied: Joel 28:28-29

NT JESUS in

Acts 1:4 “... he gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised,

Luke 24:49 “I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Who will baptize us with the Holy Spirit ? JESUS

Luke 3:16 “ John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire”.

What will happen?

Acts 1:8 (NIV)

“ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”.

When did it happen?

Acts 2:1-4(NIV)

“ When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them”.

Hindrances:

1.Unforgiveness – Matt. 6:5

What is forgiveness? It is a decision, not a feeling.

2.Prohibited Practices – Deuteronomy 18:10-12

  1. Fear – Luke 11:10-13

  2. Unbelief due to wrong teaching

How to received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

    1. Ask.

    2. Received and give thanks.

    3. Speak in other tongues.
